Devotional: Coping with Success- Day 4

Day 4: The Danger of Spiritual Pride

Reading:
Luke 17:7-10
7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

1 Timothy 3:6
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Devotional:
After you've prayed and someone was healed, after you've shared the gospel and someone got saved, after you've experienced spiritual success—what then? Jesus says to declare: "We are unprofitable servants. We have done that which was our duty to do." Spiritual pride is subtle and dangerous. It can creep in even while God is using you powerfully. The antidote is remembering that every spiritual victory flows from His grace, not your greatness. You're a willing vessel, nothing more. The moment you begin to think highly of yourself because of what God has done through you, you're in dangerous territory. Stay humble. Give God all the glory. Remember that without His grace, you can do nothing.

Reflection Question:
Have I taken credit for something God did through me, or have I been comparing my spiritual success with others?
