Day 5: Taste and See That the Lord is Good

Reading: Psalm 34:1-10

1 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

1 Peter 3:8-12
8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Devotional:
Blessed is the person who trusts in the Lord. You cannot earn God's favor through extreme acts or self-punishment—salvation and blessing come through simple trust. Taste and see that the Lord is good. When you seek the Lord, you lack no good thing. This doesn't mean instant gratification, but rather that God provides everything you truly need. Those who fear the Lord and trust Him will not be left wanting. Today, stop striving to earn what has already been given. Rest in the finished work of Jesus. Trust God's goodness, speak His promises, and love the life He's given you—because loving life begins with loving the Life-Giver.
