Devotional: Heavy Lifting - Day Three
Day 3: Praying Beyond Your Understanding
Reading: Romans 8:25-28
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Devotional: We don't always know what to pray. Situations overwhelm us, needs are complex, and our words feel inadequate. This is where the Holy Spirit steps in with divine assistance. When you pray in tongues, you're praying the perfect will of God—interceding with groanings that transcend human language. The Spirit helps our infirmities, taking hold together with us against obstacles we face. This isn't about spiritual maturity; it's about yielding to God's power within you. That urgent burden to pray you sometimes feel? That's the Spirit moving you to intercede for situations you may not even fully understand. And here's the promise: when you cooperate with the Spirit, all things work together for good because you're praying according to God's purpose.
Reflection: Set aside time today to pray in the Spirit for a situation where you don't know what to pray in your natural understanding.
