Devotional: Abiding Under His Shadow - Day 2
Day 2: Patience Through Tribulation
Reading: Romans 5:1-5
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
James 1:2-4
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Devotional: Count it all joy when tribulations come—not because suffering is good, but because it's another opportunity to prove God's Word works. Tribulation doesn't create patience; it reveals and strengthens the patience already within you as fruit of the Spirit. Every trial is resistance against God's promises in your life, and resistance builds spiritual muscle. The trying of your faith produces endurance, and endurance produces experience, and experience produces hope that never disappoints. Don't despair when symptoms return or circumstances worsen after you've believed. This is the temptation to fall away that Jesus warned about. Stand firm. The testimony on the other side will make the devil wish he never tried you. Your faith will survive, and you'll emerge stronger, more patient, and lacking nothing.
